Alaska Bar Exam
Alaska Bar Exam Format
The Alaska bar exam is the legacy Uniform Bar Exam (“UBE”). It takes two days and consists of the Multistate Performance Test (“MPT”), the Multistate Essay Exam (“MEE”), and the Multistate Bar Exam (“MBE”). Alaska-specific law is not tested on the exam. Alaska intends to administer the NextGen UBE beginning July 2028 (legacy UBE through February 2028). Confirm current rules with the Alaska Bar Association and NCBE.
MPT (Performance Test)
Alaska tests two (2) MPT performance tests.
MEE (Essays)
Alaska tests six (6) MEE essays covering the standard MEE subject pool.
MBE (Multiple Choice)
Alaska uses the standard MBE.
MBE Score Transfer

UBE Score Transfer
Alaska accepts a portable UBE score of 270 or greater earned within five years prior to the application date (lowered from 280 by SCO 2002, effective February 2023). See Admission by UBE Score Transfer. Alaska has announced plans to accept NextGen UBE scores beginning with the July 2026 administration (confirm the adopted NextGen cut score with the Bar).
