Colorado Bar Exam
Colorado Bar Exam Format
The Colorado bar exam is the legacy Uniform Bar Exam (“UBE”). It takes two days and consists of the Multistate Performance Test (“MPT”), the Multistate Essay Exam (“MEE”), and the Multistate Bar Exam (“MBE”). Colorado-specific law is not tested on the exam. Colorado plans to administer the NextGen UBE beginning July 2028 (legacy UBE through February 2028). Confirm current rules with Colorado Legal Regulation and NCBE.
MPT / MEE / MBE
Colorado administers two MPTs, six MEE essays, and the standard MBE (standard UBE weights: MPT 20%, MEE 30%, MBE 50%).
MBE Score Transfer
Colorado does not accept MBE scores transferred from other jurisdictions.
UBE Score Transfer
Colorado accepts a portable UBE score of 270 or greater (scores earned before February 2023 must meet the prior 276 cut). Scores earned within three years of application generally qualify; scores more than three but less than five years old may qualify with additional active-practice requirements. See UBE score transfer. Colorado begins accepting NextGen UBE transfers with the July 2026 administration (NextGen cut score TBA).
