Maryland Bar Exam Format
Beginning with the July 2026 administration, Maryland administers the NextGen Uniform Bar Exam. Legacy MBE, MEE, and MPT components are no longer administered (final legacy sitting: February 2026). Applicants must also complete the Maryland Law Component (outlines plus an open-book multiple-choice assessment) before admission. Confirm current rules with the State Board of Law Examiners and NCBE.

MBE Score Transfer
Maryland does not accept MBE scores transferred from other jurisdictions.
UBE Score Transfer
Maryland accepts portable scores: legacy UBE 266 or greater, or NextGen UBE 616 or greater, earned within three years. NextGen transfers are accepted from July 2026 administrations.

Applications, fees, and deadlines are on the Maryland State Board of Law Examiners site. July 2026 NextGen seating was subject to capacity limits; confirm current seat availability before filing.
Grading
Passing Score
The NextGen UBE minimum passing score in Maryland is 616. The former legacy UBE cut score was 266.
Retaking the Maryland Bar Exam
Unsuccessful applicants may reapply. Confirm attempt limits with the Board.
